Draper job fair is Jan. 20

SPICELAND — Anyone looking for full-time employment will likely want to consider applying to Draper, Inc., where several dozen people will be hired in the coming months.

Draper is hosting a job fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 20 at its South Pearl Street production facility. Director of Human Resources Carl Dick said the plan is to hire as many as 80 people.

“We’re not going to hire 80 people in February, but we’ll probably need between 60 and 80 people over the course of the next four or five months. We’re going to try to build up a good pool and get them interviewed and ready to go so when the need arises, we’ll have them ready to walk through the door,” he said.

Anyone who has applied to Draper in the past six months does not need to re-apply.

Potential employees must have taken the Work Keys assessment administered at Work One offices throughout central Indiana. The New Castle Work One office is located at 3011 S. 14th St, in the Payne Village shopping center. The office phone number is 765-529-3010.

Dick shared a few thoughts on other attributes the company is looking for in new hires.

“Manufacturing experience would be nice, but it’s not required,” he said. “We’re looking for a stable work background. We want someone who has been in the same place for a little while, preferably a fast-paced environment. They’re going to be on their feet a lot. Somebody who has the kind of experience that could be worked easily into a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing organization.”

Those interested in a job at Draper are not required to attend the upcoming job fair. Job seekers can apply online at https://draperinc.applicantpro.com/jobs/. However, Dick said their are some advantages to attending the job fair.

“There’s a group of us who will be [available] to answer any questions people have and give them information about benefits and what Draper has to offer,” he said. “We’ll also have a group of folks who will be taking people through for some brief plant tours, just so they can see what they would be getting themselves into if they really want to work here.”

The positions to be filled include first-day medical, dental and vision insurance, as well as matching 401(k) eligibility the first month following 30 days of service.

Starting production wages at Draper range from $17 to $18.42 per hour.

A 90-day probationary period applies, and availability for significant overtime is expected.

Applications for office clerical, professional, technical and sales positions also are being accepted. An advertisement that recently appeared in The Courier-Times states that while there are no immediate openings in these areas, the company expects to grow in 2018, which will likely create additional employment opportunities.

Only candidates meeting Draper’s Work Keys score requirements will be considered.
