County council looking for board volunteer

By KEVIN GREEN - kgreen@thecouriertimes.com

The Henry County Council is looking for a civic-minded local resident willing to serve as an appointee on the Southwest District Ambulance Service Board of Directors.

President Nate LaMar said as part of the county council’s ongoing effort to make government and its appointments process more transparent, and to set an example for other governmental entities, the council is inviting registered voters in Henry County to apply for this open position.

The appointment is for a one-year term, which runs from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2018.

Applicants must be able to attend board meetings, which take place at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday in January, April, July and October. There is no pay or stipend; service on the board is completely voluntary.

“While any registered voter in Henry County may apply for this appointment, preference will be given to those living in the Southwest District Ambulance Service’s service area,” LaMar said.

Anyone interested in being appointed is asked to submit a letter of interest with their qualifications, which should include experience and education, to: Nate LaMar, 5400 N. Muncie Pike, New Castle IN 47362-9211.

Interested persons may also email a letter of interest to: NateLaMar@cs.com.

Letters must be received no later than Tuesday, Jan. 23 for consideration.

LaMar said candidates will be voted on and appointments will be made at the Jan. 24 county council meeting. He also indicated the current appointee to this position is welcome to apply for reappointment, and noted while the incumbent hasn’t applied at this time, that may have resulted from recently being out of town.

The seat on the Southwest District Ambulance Service Board of Directors is the only vacancy the county council currently needs to fill.

Copies of letters of interest from candidates not selected by the county council will be given to the Henry County Commissioners, New Castle Mayor Greg York and New Castle City Council President Mark Koger for consideration with respect to their citizen appointments.

Henry County Commissioner Kim Cronk said the commissioners will announce their appointments to various boards when they meet at 6 p.m. today in the old circuit courtroom on the second floor of the Henry County Courthouse.

He also said the commissioners have all of the interested citizens needed to fill any vacancies the board of commissioners is responsible for filling.
