The Lewisville General Store is making many changes to their establishment with new items and taking visitors back in time, before cell phones and before social media.

The Courier-Times spoke with one of the owners, Chelsea Hutson, to get a background on the new changes they are bringing to Lewisville as well as a guide to what they offer if you’ve never been to the store.

“Waylon Thompson and I have made several changes over the last two years from new equipment to the hand-painted window,” Hutson said. “Although they all have brought us to where we are now, one in particular that really makes us stand out is our brand new 1950s old fashion soda fountain equipped with a soda rail for all of your hand-poured, old fashioned sodas! We also incorporated a 12 foot bar to go along with it.”

The Lewisville General Store Facebook page mentioned more upgrades coming to the store.

“Our future changes include adding another bar facing south looking out on to historic National Road US 40, a couple tables out underneath our brand new awning for people to enjoy, a hand painted menu board with all of the favorites from food to ice cream and sodas. We are also adding some fresh paint to brighten it up a bit!”

Hutson and Thompson are working hard to bring back a piece of American history by reintroducing the soda fountain.

“It has five soda stools for anyone to sit and enjoy a hand-patty burger or hand-breaded tenderloin and drink a refreshing cherry phosphate! We also have many other flavors from green river, chocolate, strawberry, grape, blue raspberry and many more!” Hutson said.

“Every drink will be hand poured and made to perfection! We also buy fresh, never frozen burger and tenderloins daily. We hand patty our burgers and hand bread our tenderloins every morning. We also are home of the original Harold’s hamburger!” she added.

Since adding their 1950s soda fountain, the General Store owners decided to expand their menu when it comes to drinks that they can make and serve.

“Some of the things we will be offering from the fountain are phosphates of many flavors, ice cream sodas, root beer floats, a large variety of ice cream sundaes and also banana splits! We also have a variety of hand dipped ice cream on the what’s new section!” Hutson said.

If someone has never been to the general store before, what it’s like?

“When you arrive at the store, it’s like stepping back in time with a small town atmosphere,” Hutson said. “You’ll see smiling faces, some you may know and some you may not know but you will soon be a forever friend. There are many stories to be told here at the Lewisville General Store from customers reminiscing on the yesteryears of our little town and the pictures we have displayed on the walls, whether it be someone’s relative or a memory they have with them or the stories we hear from people growing up and eating the old Harold’s hamburgers when they were a kid.”

The Lewisville General Store is also opening to normal business hours again.

“We are very happy to be open fully to our normal business hours Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.!” Hutson said. “We were running on temporary hours due to a surgery and also the renovations we have made. We are ready to see what this year brings us and can’t wait to see new faces!”

The Lewisville General Store is located at 104 E. Main St.
