Raymond York, 91, of New Castle, passed away early Friday morning, July 23, 2021, at Glen Oaks Health Campus following a brief illness.
He was born on July 1, 1930 in Robbins, Tennessee, a son of the late Sylvester York and Ella Mae (Sanders) York.
Ray retired in 1993 from Borg Warner in Muncie. He was a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker and had also worked for Nicholson File and other Tool and Die Shops. Ray loved bluegrass music and enjoyed playing in a local bluegrass band. He was a talented musician playing about any instrument with his favorite being a fiddle. Ray was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the UAW, and a licensed Ham Radio Operator.
Those left to cherish Ray’s memory include his three children, Rita (Richard) Williams, Kenneth (Linda) York, and Dennis (Teresa) York all of New Castle; grandchildren, Ashley (Alex) Stigall, Amy York (Rick Hunnicutt), Mike (Cheryl) York, Lee (Shelley) York, Jake York, Lindsey York (Austin Garrett), Lori (Tony) Brotz, and Sherri (Nick) Benson; great-grandchildren, Shelby York (fiancée: Logan Lewis), Emma Brotz, Jett York, Case and Cobe Ray York, Aly York, and Ada Jaymes Stigall; a sister, Reba Luellen of Robbins, TN; two brothers, Arlie York of New Castle and Willis (Mary) York of Parker City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Bertha (Jones) York; two brothers, Elmer York, Lonnie York; three sisters, Velma Brewster, Ruby Frogge, and infant, Aree York, and his special friend, Juanita Kissick.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Wayman Allen officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition.
