RICHMOND — Tri High School seniors Parker Engle and Evan Murphy advanced as individuals to the regional from Monday’s IHSAA boys golf sectional at Forest Hills Country Club in Richmond.
Tourney-host Richmond was team champion with a score of 328, Connersville was second at 342, and Union County third at 351.
The Red Devils, Spartans, and Patriots will compete as complete teams in Thursday’s regional at The Players Club in Yorktown hosted by Muncie Central.
Finishing fourth through 12th, respectively, in the team standings were Rushville 384, Franklin County 386, Hagerstown 387, Northeastern 397, Tri 400, Cambridge City Lincoln 417, Centerville 438, Union (Modoc) 478, and Seton Catholic incomplete.
Individuals from two of the three advancing teams had the top overall scores at the Richmond sectional. Connersville’s Jonah Graham was medalist with a 76, Union County’s Cameron Woods was second with 77, and the Spartans’ Cooper Kinney placed third with a 78.
Tri’s Engle shot a 39 on the front nine and a 43 on the back nine for a total score of 82, and the Titans’ Murphy carded a 40 on the front nine and a 44 on the back nine for a total score of 84.
They will be joined at the regional as individuals from this sectional along with Alex Beatty from Northeastern, who shot 83.
Other scores for eighth-place Tri were Holden Thomas (56-59, 115); Ryan Craft (58-61, 119); and Mason Moffitt (66-66, 132).
Sixth-place Hagerstown was led by Ethan Werking, who shot 44 on both the front and back nines for a total score of 88.
Other scores for the Tigers were Elijah DeBruler (47-52, 99); Trey Sharp (50-49, 99); Ryan Hill (49-52, 101); and Jake Lieberman (51-58, 109).
Thursday’s regional at The Players Club, which commences at 8 a.m., also will include qualifiers from the Indianapolis Cathedral, Greenfield-Central, Monroe Central, Noblesville, and Norwell sectionals.
