INDIANAPOLIS — Sunday night, the IHSAA held the draw of pairings for its annual volleyball state tournament, and five of our local high school teams know the paths they must take to get to the state finals.

Shenandoah, our sixth local team, has opted out of this year’s tournament.

Sectionals are Oct. 12, 14, and 16; regionals are Oct. 23; semi-states are Oct. 30; and the state finals are Saturday, Nov. 6 at Ball State’s Worthen Arena in Muncie.

Class 4A Sectional 9 at Yorktown

New Castle is in this eight-team sectional that travels the southern route in the tournament.

On Tuesday, Oct. 12, Richmond plays Mt. Vernon (Fortville) in the first match, followed by Pendleton Heights taking on Greenfield-Central in the second one.

Thursday, Oct. 14 finds Muncie Central facing tourney host and defending 4A state champion Yorktown in the first match, followed by New Castle tangling with Anderson in the second match of the night.

On Saturday, Oct. 16, Tuesday’s winners will collide in the first semifinal match, followed by Thursday’s winners playing each other in the second semifinal. The sectional championship match is that night.

In the regional Saturday, Oct. 23 at Greenfield-Central, the sectional winners at Yorktown and North Central (Indianapolis) face each other in the first semifinal match, followed by the champions of the Terre Haute South and Roncalli sectionals tangling in the second semifinal match. The regional championship match is that night.

This regional winner will face the Bloomington North regional champion for the Class 4A southern semi-state championship Saturday, Oct. 30 at either Columbus East or Jasper.

Class 2A Sectional 41 at Union County

Knightstown and Hagerstown are the local teams is in this six-team sectional that travels the southern route in the tournament.

On Tuesday, Oct. 12, host Union County plays Eastern Hancock in the first match, followed by Northeastern taking on Knightstown in the second one.

On Saturday, Oct. 16, Centerville faces the winner of Tuesday’s Patriots/Royals match in the first semifinal match, followed by Hagerstown taking on the winner of Tuesday’s Knights/Panthers match in the second semifinal. The sectional championship match is that night.

In the regional Saturday, Oct. 23 at Cascade, the sectional winners at Southmont and Western Boone face each other in the first semifinal match, followed by the champions of the Union County and Indianapolis Scecina sectionals tangling in the second semifinal match. The regional championship match is that night.

This regional winner will face the Mitchell regional champion for the Class 2A southern semi-state championship Saturday, Oct. 30 at either Columbus East or Jasper.

Class A Sectional 56 at Union (Modoc)

Blue River Valley and Tri are the local teams in this seven-team sectional that travels the northern route in the tournament.

In the only opening-round match on Tuesday, Oct. 12, host Union (Modoc) plays Seton Catholic.

The opening round on Thursday, Oct. 14 finds Randolph Southern facing Blue River Valley in the first match, followed by Cambridge City Lincoln tangling with Union City in the second match of the night.

On Saturday, Oct. 16, Tri collides with Tuesday’s winner in the first semifinal match, followed by Thursday’s winners playing each other in the second semifinal. The sectional championship match is that night.

In the regional Saturday, Oct. 23 at Wes-Del, the sectional winners at Union (Modoc) and Covington face each other in the first semifinal match, followed by the champions of the Daleville and South Newton sectionals tangling in the second semifinal match. The regional championship match is that night.

This regional winner will face the Culver Community regional champion for the Class A northern semi-state championship Saturday, Oct. 30 at either Huntington North or Frankfort.
