Local girls basketball teams Blue River Valley and Shenandoah are ranked in the Top 10 of their respective class AP polls for the week of Nov. 15.

The Viking girls, who have not yet played a game this season, are ranked No. 10 in Class A. Ahead of them, in order, are defending Class A state champion Loogootee, Pioneer (who defeated BRV in last season’s northern semi-state championship game), Greenwood Christian, Trinity Lutheran, Lanesville, Jac-Cen-Del, Waldron, Tecumseh, and Morgan Township.

Only Pioneer and Morgan Township are in the northern bracket of the state tournament, as is Blue River. The Vikings are scheduled to open their season this coming Tuesday against visiting Class 3A Muncie Burris.

The Raiders, who are ranked No. 7 in the latest Class 2A poll, are 0-1 for the season after falling by six points at Class 3A Heritage Christian this past Tuesday night. Ahead of Shenandoah in the poll are, in order, defending Class 2A state champion Linton-Stockton, University, Frankton, Eastern (Pekin),and Lafayette Central Catholic and South Central (Union Mills), who are tied for sixth.

Ranked just behind the Raiders are, in order, Triton Central, Forest Park, and Covenant Christian.

Shenandoah is in the southern bracket of the IHSAA tournament along with six other schools currently in the Top 10. The Raiders have a big game Nov. 27 at No. 3 Frankton (last season’s Class 2A runner-up). but are scheduled to play two other games before that.

No other local girls team is ranked or mentioned in the Nov. 15 polls. Right now, Carmel is No. 1 in the Class 4A poll and Silver Creek is No. 1 in the Class 3A poll.
