Northeastern 68, Hagerstown 47

The Knights defeated the host Tigers by 21 points Thursday night in the opening Round of the Wayne County Boys Basketball Tournament.

Hagerstown dropped to 1-9 for the season and hosts Winchester Friday, Jan. 15 in a Tri-Eastern Conference game.

Girls Basketball

Northeastern 45, Hagerstown 28

The Knights defeated the host Tigers by 17 points in Thursday night’s opening round of the Wayne County Girls Basketball tournament.

Hagerstown slipped to a record of 5-8 and hosts Knightstown Tuesday night in a Tri-Eastern Conference game.

Wapahani 60, New Castle 49

The Trojan girls traveled to Selma Thursday night and fell to the host Raiders by 11 points to drop to a record of 1-9 for the season.

The game was close through three quarters, as New Castle trailed just 43-39 heading into the final period.

But Wapahani outscored the Trojans in the fourth quarter 17-10 to win by 11 points.

Macayla McGowan led New Castle with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, and also had three steals.

Also for the Trojans, Mackenzie Bridgeman had eight points; Maddy Meek had six points and six rebounds; Emma Hart had six points, five rebounds, and three steals; and Jayci Reeves had six points and five rebounds.

In addition for New Castle, Ava Stearns had two points and six rebounds; Morley Blessinger had two points and three rebounds; and Chloe Vaughn had three points and two rebounds.

Reese Baker led the host Raiders with 18 points, Camryn Wise had 17, and Lala Lee 14.

The Trojans travel to Eastern Hancock Tuesday.

Wapahani 34, New Castle 27 (JV)

The Trojan JV team fell to the host Raiders by seven points Thursday evening.

Wapahani led 20-13 at halftime, and both teams scored 14 points in the second half.

Emma Hart led the Trojans with eight points, followed by Devyn Ayres six, Morley Blessinger, Ava Stearns, and Raynee Young three apiece, and Addison McGowan and Jayci Reeves two each.

Destiny Felder scored a game-high 11 points to lead the Raiders.
