PARKER CITY — The Class A No. 3 Tri High School varsity softball team traveled a bit northeast Friday evening to face host Class 2A Monroe Central and thrashed the Golden Bears 17-0 in five innings.
The visiting Titans improved their record to 7-3 for the season.
Tri’s Chloe Gentry was in the circle and pitched the shutout, giving up only three hits in the game. Gentry had 12 strikeouts and no walks in the affair that ended early under the 10-run rule.
The Titans scored early in the game, plating seven runs in the first inning and eight more in the second. They added two more runs in the third to make account for the final score.
Gentry led off the game by getting hit by a pitch. She stole second and third base to put herself in scoring position. Cayla Claar hit a ground ball to the shortstop who tried to get Gentry at the plate, but it was not in time.
Claar advanced to second base on the throw to the plate. Cheyenne Lee singled to move Claar to third. Lee stole second on the next pitch to put both runners in scoring position. Kennedy Peggs reached base on a throwing error by the shortstop which also allowed both runners to score.
Peggs advanced the second on a passed ball and Anastasia Sorrell’s single scored Peggs. Bailey Parham hit a single to move Sorrell to third. Parham stole second base, and Maleah Hewitt belted a double to clear the bases.
Hewitt advanced to third on a passed ball and Morgan Richey’s groundout to the right side plated Hewitt making the score 7-0 after a half inning.
In the top of the second inning, Tri scored eight more runs on six hits and three miscues by the Bears.
Peggs had a single and a double with two RBI. Gentry, Claar, Lee and Parham all had singles and scored to help build the Titan lead. Rylee Boyd also scored a run in the inning.
Gentry continued to mow down Monroe Central’s lineup as the defense held tight for the Tri.
In the third inning, the Titans scored two more runs on four hits. Gentry doubled and scored a run. Claar and Lee also had doubles but did not score in the inning.
Hewitt had a single in the stanza but did not score. Boyd scored the other run after reaching base on a fielder’s choice. Trinity Mettert also had a hit in the game for Tri.
The Titans played at Shenandoah Monday.
